During a recent episode of Sunday Sitdown With Willie Geist, Jelly Roll shared how he has given back to the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center, the same location where he was incarcerated as a teen. In the interview, Jelly disclosed how he recently worked along with the facility, and even partnered with the attorney who prosecuted him back in the day. “I said, ‘I am all in. I will hang drywall and cut a check. Tell me which one you need me to do, if not both,'” the singer recalled. “It started with me just having extreme accountability. Going, ‘Man, I helped make this mess.’ And then, as my heart started getting right, getting more pure, I started feeling a responsibility to go clean it up.” Jelly recently helped build a new recording studio at the detention center, which is where he first discovered his passion for music and ultimately changed the direction of his life.
