Blake Shelton is one of a multitude of celebrities that are fighting child poverty with Red Nose Day TODAY!

Red Nose Day is being held for the first time in the U.S. today with the goal of raising money and bringing attention to the issue of child poverty.

Blake recently visited a mobile clinic in South Los Angeles where he ,et some of the families facing poverty. The clinic on wheels is one of 50 operated by Children’s Health Fund across the U.S. which provide exams, vision screening, hearing tests and more to families who pay based on what they can afford. (Watch a video below from “The Voice” of Blake and Carson Daly talking about the visit and Red Nose Day.)

Children’s Health Fund is one of the 12 charities supported by Red Nose Day, which is dedicated to raising money for children and young people living in poverty.

Blake feels as a country we need to do a better job to confront the poverty so many children are facing every day: “We’re in the United States. We’re the greatest country in the world. I truly believe that. And still, one out of every five children live in poverty. I think it’s time that we open our eyes to that.”

The Red Nose Day events will culminate in a three-hour TV special on NBC featuring original sketches by top comedians, appearances by Hollywood stars and musical performances. The special, which will feature more than 65 celebrities including Blake, airs at 7:00 PM central time on NBC TV.
