First Listen: Little Big Town “Better Man” and Music Video

Little Big Town has released a brand new song titled “Better Man” along with a music video for the song.

The song is the debut single from a forthcoming new album from the reigning ACM and CMA Vocal Group of the Year. The Grammy winner’s new album will be titled The Breaker. It is scheduled for a February 24, 2017 release date.

The song “Better Man” has Karen Fairchild taking lead while Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet provide the amazingly tight harmonies that Little Big Town has become famous for during their career. The music video also features Karen with the other three members playing in key roles of telling the story.

What I found interesting about the song and music video, there is an obvious story that they both tell. But, I also found my mind came up with a less obvious way to interpret the song and music video.

The obvious interpretation is that the song and music video is about a relationship that has gone bad due to the shortcomings of the man in the eyes of the woman.

However, another more subtle interpretation that came to mind as I watch the music video above and listened to the lyrics of the song is that it could be the story of a father and child’s relationship that suffers due to the lack of what the child sees as the right actions from the dad.

That is one of the things that I love about music, the opportunity for the listener to relate to it in whatever manner they feel is right for them. It is also the mark of a great song (in my opinion) when there can be multiple interpretations by the person listening to the lyrics to connect with the song in their own way.
