Is there really going to be a Jimmy Buffett musical? Parrotheads rejoice because the answer is YES!

The musical is titled Escape to Margaritaville and will combine both original songs and Jimmy’s classic hits according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The storyline for the musical will tell the story of a charming bartender-singer at a tropical island resort who falls for a beautiful, career-minded tourist.

The musical will make its world premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse in the San Diego, California area next year. The limited engagement will begin with previews May 16, 2017 with opening night set for May 28, 2017 and shows scheduled through June 25, 2017.

Jimmy seems excited about the new venture. He posted a link to the story by The Hollywood Reporter story to his Facebook page along with the message, “Officially official.”

You’ve got to wonder if it does well in San Diego, will Escape to Margaritaville make its way the musical big leagues, Broadway in New York? I know many fans of Jimmy Buffett that travel thousands of miles to see his concerts, so I would guess that the musical will be well attended in San Diego. Only time will tell as far as Broadway goes.

I have to wonder if my favorite Buffett songs “Margaritaville,” “Changes in Latitudes,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise”  and “Volcano” will make the musical? Well, based on the title of the musical it would be a pretty safe bet that “Margaritaville” will make the cut.
