Carrie Underwood has sung “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night” for the past three years. Now she will sing a NEW theme song for the Sunday Night Football game on NBC.

The song “Waiting All Day For Sunday” based on Joan Jett’s hit song “I Hate Myself for Loving You” has served for the opening theme song for the Sunday night NFL program for the past decade. Pop singer Pink and superstar Faith Hill have both been the singer of the song for NBC over that time frame.

In 2013 Carrie Underwood took over the performance duties of the song through last year’s NFL season. She will again remain as the singer of the Sunday Night Football theme song for the 2016-2017 NFL season, but the song will change.

Nash Country Daily reports that Carrie recorded a new theme song titled “Oh, Sunday Night” which is based on her hit duet with Miranda Lambert “Somethin’ Bad.” The picture above was posted to Carrie’s Twitter account along with the message, “Carrie sings new theme song! “Oh, Sunday Night” debuts 9/11! –TeamCU

In a press release, Carrie says, “I love being part of the Sunday Night Football family and can’t wait for the fans to hear the new theme song.”

Fred Gaudelli, executive producer of NBC’s Sunday Night Football gives credit to Carrie for the new theme song, “Earlier this off-season, Carrie said she had a special idea for a new SNF open song. When we got into the recording studio in Nashville, the song instantly came to life, and will be a dynamic addition to our show.”

The new Sunday Night Football theme “Oh, Sunday Night” by Carrie Underwood will debut before the Arizona Cardinals vs. the New England Patriots game on Sept. 11th on NBC.

It would be interesting to see both Carrie AND Miranda together on the theme song since it’s based on a duet by the two superstars. Perhaps they will get together to make a special version for the Super Bowl this year.
