The 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB) season officially kicked off last night with the Cardinals and Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Opening Night of the 2015 MLB season started in the “Friendly Confines” with one of the oldest rivalries in professional sports. The St. Louis Cardinals traveled north to battle the Chicago Cubs.

In the pre-game ceremony the Cubs honored both the loss of St. Louis Cardinals player Oscar Taveras and Chicago Hall of Famer Earnie Banks. Wrigley Field was adorned with salutes to “Mr. Cub” with his image and number in almost any direction you looked.

The Cubs were led by their new Manager Joe Maddon and sent their newly acquired starting pitcher Jon Lester to the mound.

The Cardinals sent their veteran pitcher Adam Wainwright to the mound to start the game.

In the end it was Wainwright getting the win and Trevor Rosenthal getting the save as the Cards handed the new Cubs pitcher a shut-out loss in his first games as a Cubbie with a final score of 3-0.

The rest of the MLB teams will be opening their season today while the Cardinals and Cubs take the day off before facing off again in Chicago tomorrow.
