Whether or not you’re a fan of “bro-country,” (for the record I AM), you may be hearing the word a little more often because it was just added to the dictionary as an official word. Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line seem to be blamed the most for bringing "bro-country" center stage in the world of country, some think it's a passing fad, but I believe it's here to stay.
"Bro-Country" is now being recognized by the Cambridge Dictionary’s New Word blog as “a sub-genre of country music sung by young white men, featuring songs with macho themes such as trucks, drinking and partying.” The word could eventually be added to Cambridge’s official dictionary if it proves to have “staying power", meaning hasn’t been officially added to the English language, but it has been recognized as a new word.
In 20 years, fans of country music are going to look back on the era of bro-country, just like we look back on the era of George Strait…it's not going to be weird, it's just going to be part of the story.
