Last night a football game was played that didn’t receive much fanfare. The annual Pro Bowl was played during the off week before the Super Bowl between New England and Seattle. The annual Pro Bowl was usually played in Hawaii a week after the Super Bowl.
Ratings and interest have fallen over the years for the Pro Bowl pushing the NFL to make some changes to drum up viewership. For the past couple years former big name players have drafted players fantasy football style and were made honorary Captain’s for the game.
This year also saw the NFL place some different rules in place to see if it would work during the season. The goal posts were reduced by four feet and there were no blitzing or special teams other than punting. Those rules were already in place, but with the extra point try was moved back to make it harder. The team had to make a 33 yard kick to convert.
The game was a little more interesting as players from the same team will compete against each other and the coach will coach against some of his best players. Prime example was Jordy Nelson of Green Bay scoring a TD against his friend and teammate Clay Matthews Jr. They both celebrated the TD in the end zone. That was odd for all of us fans.
