TMZ Sets the Record Straight for Craig Wayne Boyd

Days after winning of season seven of “The VoiceTMZ posted a story bashing Craig Wayne Boyd for blowing off his fans. Here’s the real story.

For those of you who do not know, I have worked for a record company doing promotions working with Gary Allan and Lee Ann Womack (among others) at the start of their careers. I know personally how the world of promoting a new artist works and the demands put on the artists every day.

To begin with, I am not a big fan of TMZ and their style of sensationalism for getting viewers and web traffic. Often it seems to me they put something out that appears to be something that will shock people and they do not have all the details. They are simply a web and TV based tabloid. I am not saying they don’t have the right to do what they do. This is America and freedom of speech is for all. However, sometimes it appears to me that they do not consider the damage that their style of reporting can do to an individual personally or professionally if they have the story wrong. This is just my opinion. Again, it is that freedom of speech thing.

That being said, I have to give TMZ credit for at least an attempt to set the record straight for Craig Wayne Boyd. When the original story broke I had several people ask me what I thought what I thought about it. I told them that based on my experience in promoting artists it was likely that Craig Wayne Boyd was being rushed off to another appearance or something. Having just won “The Voice,” any promotion person worth the money they get paid would be trying to get him in front of everybody than can immediately. It’s the whole “strike while the iron is hot” scenario to get the results for the artist.

TMZ is now reporting that I was correct in my assessment of the situation. Craig Wayne told TMZ the reason he rushed to the car without talking with his fans that day was because: “It was such a whirlwind for me at that moment. They were rushing me out to meet Donald Trump.”

Even in setting the record straight TMZ could not simply report that Craig Wayne had a slammed schedule, they had to get some jabs in against the country singer. For that I give their efforts a C+ in this story. Again, that is just my opinion. Feel free to agree or disagree with me.

To Craig Wayne Boyd I say keep up the good work and don’t let stuff like this get to you. Those types of stories only prove that you have a bright future. People only take cheap shots at those who are on top or on their way to the top.
