The Battle Rounds began last night on season nine of “The Voice.” Blake Shelton had two battles and saved two artists for Team Blake. Do you agree with his choices?
Blake had the help of his friend and fellow country music singer-songwriter Brad Paisley to get his artists ready for the battles. The first pairing to take the stage for Team Blake was Tyler Dickerson and Zach Seabaugh. The two performed Travis Tritt’s southern rock-country hit song “I’m Gonna Be Somebody.” Both artists did well, but Blake felt that Zach put more effort into the performance and chose to save him for the Knock Out Rounds.
The final battle of the night was Barrett Baber and Dustin Christensen. Blake had these two perform Marc Cohn’s hit song “Walking In Memphis.” After the performance, Blake said that as far as the battle went it was a “tie, this is a draw.” Yet another example of why I have been saying for a couple of years now that during the Battle Rounds each coach should get one “Draw” they can use and give up one “Steal” to keep two artists if they choose. Since that was not an option for Blake he had to choose and he decided to keep Barrett.
Dustin remains on the show as both Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani hit their buttons for a steal. In the end, even after some lobbying from Blake to choose Gwen, Dustin decided to join Team Adam.
Do you think Blake made the right choices in these two battles? I think I would have made the same calls as Blake on these two performances.
The Battle Rounds continue tonight on “The Voice” starting at 8pm central time on NBC TV.
