Apparently, owning a penthouse is so 20th century. It appears the new way to show you have mega-money is to build an actual mansion on top of a skyscraper.

Pictures of a mansion on top of a 33-story building in India are going viral. It’s supposed to be a smaller version of the White House. Construction on the mansion began more than a decade ago. It reportedly cost over $20 million.

However, the man who had it built may never get to live in it. He had to flee India in 2016 after he was accused of fraud and money laundering. He was the chairman one of the largest liquor companies in the world, United Spirits.

One reporter called this an “extreme example” of a trend that is growing among the world’s wealthiest people. Bored with just the normal penthouse, they are opting for something more impressive.

Below is another over the top example of this trend. It is a mountaintop style mansion on top of a skyscraper in Beijing, China.

I guess you have to be smart to make enough money to be able to afford this kind of thing. However, wasting it on this kind of thing really makes you wonder how much common sense they have.
