If you are still eating leftovers from Thanksgiving, science says you should stop after today.
A new poll says that 7% of us are still eating leftovers from the big day of feasting. However, food scientists say that that today should be the last day.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, refrigerated leftovers should be thrown out after three to four days for safety. If you moved them to the freezer, they can be kept for three to four months according to the food scientists.
There is some flexibility depending on the type of food. However, they state that meat and dairy should not be pushed and the “smell test” is not 100% reliable.
According to these guidelines, make whatever meal you can tonight from the Thanksgiving leftovers and throw out whatever is not eaten.
