You Should Make Your Phone Screen Black and White Because…

Color screen shot and greyscale screen shot from an iPhone

A former design ethicist from Google says you should make your phone screen black and white.

His name is Tristan Harris. He says that if you change to the black and white screen instead of the millions of colors you have now . . . it can help break your addiction to your phone.

Tristan says that the massive amounts of colors serve as positive reinforcements that will keep you scrolling and tapping. He says that making the change to grayscale lessons the urge to use your phone.

According to Wired, many people have tried this. Some say it works, some say it doesn’t. However, if you want to lesson how much you use your phone, it is worth a shot, right?

Both iPhones and Androids have settings to shut off the color easily.

For iPhone, it’s in Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters. Turn the Color Filters switch on, and Grayscale is an option.

For Android, it’s in Quick Settings, tap the Pen icon, and add the Grayscale icon to your apps.

Do you feel like you use your phone too much?
