Hurricane Idalia hit the Gulf Coast in Florida this morning as a category 3 storm.
Landfall was made around the Keaton Beach area around 7:45am eastern time. The historic storm is the strongest to hit Florida’s Big Bend in 125 years. The hurricane brought heavy storm surge, 125 mph winds and significant flooding to coastal areas hit.
The storm has weakened to a category 2 hurricane with 105 mph winds as of around 9am eastern time. It is moving northeast at 18 mph.
Thousands are without power in Florida and many more are expected to be affected by the storm.
