Today (3/22) is National Goof Off Day. Here are some common ways that people goof off at work.
- Taking breaks to hit the kitchen, water-cooler or break room when not at lunch
- Taking part in small talk or gossip
- Communicating with family through phone calls, emails, text or social media messages
- Surfing the web or doing personal errands online
- Using social media for non-work reasons
- Watching TV on a mobile device or computer
- Playing games on a smart phone
Some experts say that goofing off at work, in small doses, is a good thing. They say that the distraction from difficult work tasks can help reduce stress levels. That allows workers to be more engaged, creative, and helpful toward co-workers.
