Bloomington Fire Department (BFD) was called to a fire in a garage at 2:36 am February 1st. The fire was located at 507 E Walnut St. in Bloomington.
Neighbors reported the fire in the garage behind the residence. BFD was able to contain the fire to the garage which was unoccupied at the time of the fire. They brought the fire under control around 3:13 am.
The BFD was able to keep the fire from spreading to other structures with just minor damage to the house at the address. The residents were home at the time of the fire. However, no civilians or firefighters while the fire was battled in the cold temperatures.
Nobody was displaced by the fire. The damage to the garage is significant although no dollar amount is available at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
BFD reminds everybody to have a fire extinguisher on hand. Check smoke alarms monthly and change batteries annually. If a fire does occur, get out and stay out.
