The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race took place yesterday (11/6) at Phoenix Raceway. Joey Logano dominated the race to win his second Cup Series Championship.
Joey started the race from the pole position. He made it obvious that he was going to be the car to beat for the race and the championship from the drop of the green flag. Joey led the first 87 laps of the race which earned him the win of stage one in the process.
Five other drivers were able to lead the race at times. That included Ryan Blaney, the winner of stage two. However, Joey led a race high 187 laps of the 312-lap race. He took the lead for the fifth and final time with 30 laps remaining in the race.
It looked like Ross Chastain had enough speed to catch Joey. However, he didn’t have enough laps to get there.
In the end Joey held on to the lead to win the race and the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Championship.
Ryan Blaney claimed second-place in the race. Ross Chastain crossed the finish line in third. Chase Briscoe and Kevin Harvick finished in fourth and fifth respectively. See the complete race results for the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race here.
