Last night (10/10) the Blind Auditions ended with all the teams being filled. The Battle Rounds began on season 22 of The Voice.
First of all, I need to point out that somehow I missed 29-year-old Benny Weag from Garfield, Washington becoming part of Team Blake last week. I don’t remember seeing his audition on TV. However, here is a short video clip of the audition.
Now to last night’s episode. Jaeden Luke has a love of old school music from the 50s, 60s and 70s. The 22-year-old from Bothell, Washington chose to perform “Make It With You” by Bread. At this point both Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello had already filled their teams. Blake Shelton pressed his button. Shortly thereafter, John Legend pressed his button. During the discussion after the performance, we found out that John did not pick him to open a show in his hometown area. Then, Jaeden got the chance to flirt with Camila by saying he “might have been singing it for you” regarding the song. Blake made his pitch and included completing “that bad-ass mullet.”
Jaeden chose Blake as his coach joining Team Blake saying “The finger convinced me.”
The Battle Rounds got started last night as well. The all-star Battle Advisors for season 22 are Jazmine Sullivan on Team Legend, Sean Paul on Team Gwen, Charlie Puth on Team Camila and Jimmie Allen on Team Blake.
The first pairing we got to see in the Battles was Team Blake’s Austin Montgomery and Tanner Fussell. I wish the YouTube videos included the interactions with the advisors because Jimmie Allen was very entertaining with Blake last night. Both Austin and Tanner have a classic country feel to their voices. Austin has a smoother, rich baritone sound. Tanner has a deep, rougher sound. Blake gave them Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” for the Battle Round performance. What an amazing performance it was!
We will have to tune in tonight to see what choice Blake makes between Austin and Tanner. I am hoping whichever Blake doesn’t choose as the winner either gets “Saved” or “Stolen” because I want to see more of both of them on the show.
