Blake Shelton started the second night of the Battle Rounds on season 20 of The Voice with both his “Steal” and his “Save.” Did he use either, neither or both?
The night started with a Team Blake pairing of Emma Caroline and Cam Anthony. It seemed like an odd pairing as Emma is a “mountain country singer” while Cam is R&B/Soul/Pop singer. Then, we find out that Blake gave them the song “10,000 Hours” written by Team Blake advisors Dan + Shay and recorded by the country duo featuring pop superstar Justin Bieber. That makes the pairing a little more understandable. Emma sings beautifully, but Cam is equally good with his singing and adds the great performance dimension. This Battle Round performance was posted as a tease Friday (4/2). That means it does not show what Blake does after the performance.
Blake chooses Cam as the winner to move to the Knockout Rounds. However, it is not the end for Emma as Blake uses his “Save” on her. She will perform in the Four-Way-Knockout.
A second pairing during the episode for Team Blake was between Jordan Matthew Young and Keegan Ferrell. Blake gives these two artists “Calling All Angels” by Train. Both artists sing very well. Jordan Matthew has a raspy rock/soul singer sound. Keegan has a smooth pop tone. The difference between the two is Jordan Matthew has a decade of live performances to draw from for stage presence. Keegan is a home-studio music producer and it shows in his stage presence (or lack there of).
Blake picks Jordan Matthew to move forward on Team Blake. Keegan also gets to move forward to the Knockout Rounds as Nick Jonas “Steals” him for Team Nick.
