Last night as Season 20 of The Voice began, Blake Shelton came face to face with an old friend, but unfortunately didn’t recognize the contestant as a former bandmate from the early days in Nashville.
The good news is, Blake DID turn his chair for Pete Mroz, but he didn’t recognize the singer until Pete mentioned that he was one of Blake’s former bandmates from a group called “The Young Riders” 25 years ago.
You can’t make this stuff up!
Eventually, Pete revealed his identity, and you could tell Blake was totally embarrassed and amused, but it was Kelly Clarkson’s hilarious shock over the situation that really had me laughing. She couldn’t believe Blake didn’t recognize someone he used to be in a band with!
In his defense, it was 25 years ago, and Blake DID turn his chair, so we have to give him a little credit.
While John Legend tried to convince Pete that the best revenge for stealing his bass player would be to disappoint Blake and join Team Legend, in the end, Pete chose his former bandmate, which Blake was thrilled about and actually posted a throwback photo on twitter last night!

What’s funny is…this isn’t the first time this has happened…remember when Christina Aguilera didn’t recognize her Mickey Mouse Club co star Tony Lucca on an earlier season?
