Last night (3/1) was the season 20 Premiere of The Voice. Which artists chose Blake Shelton as their coach and joined Team Blake in the Blind Auditions?
Cam Anthony, a 19-year-old from Philly stepped on the stage and wowed Nick Jonas enough that he used his “Block” on John Legend. John hit his button next only to find out what Nick had done. Cam’s rendition of “Lay Me Down” also motivated Blake to press his button. Both Blake and Nick made strong pitches to earn Cam’s choice. However, in the end Cam chose to join Team Blake.
45-year-old Pete Mroz though he was going to be the next Garth Brooks when he moved to Nashville 25 years ago. That obviously did not happen. He performed “Can’t Find My Way Home” and persuaded John to press his button. Blake also pressed his button later in the performance. While John was making his pitch for Pete to choose to join Team Legend, we found out that Pete and Blake were both a part of the same performance group in Nashville 25 years ago called the “Young Riders.” Blake did not recognize his long lost fellow dreamer at first (which was quite entertaining to watch). It led everybody to believe there was a chance for John, despite to personal connection with Blake. However, in the end Pete did choose Blake as his coach.
Blake ended the night with two artists on Team Blake. Both John and Kelly Clarkson also finished the night with two artists each on their respective teams.
Nick Jonas made his return for his second attempt at being the winning coach on The Voice. The now sophomore coach did the best on night one ending with three artists on Team Nick.
