Last night the Battle Rounds began on season 19 of The Voice. Kane Brown is helping Blake Shelton as the Team Blake advisor this season.
This season because of social distancing there are two smaller stages for the Battle Rounds. This allows each contestant to have their own space to perform in while remaining at least six feet from the other artist.
The first battle of the season was a Team Blake pairing of the mother and two daughters trio called Worth The Wait with 30-year-old Taryn Papa. Blake gave the “quartet” the song “Little White Church” by Little Big Town. Blake said the four-part harmony in the song would work well with the four voices in this battle. Both acts did well and impressed all the coaches.
Blake named Worth The Wait as the winner of the battle. The trio will move forward on Team Blake for the Knockout Rounds.
However, he chose to use his “Save” on Taryn keeping her on Team Blake. Taryn will participate in the four-way-battle in the Knockout Rounds. She will compete against the three artists saved by the other three coaches. The winner will be chosen by the fans and only that artist will remain on the show.
The next Team Blake battle was between 23-year-old Payton Lamar with 20-year-old Jus Jon. Blake gave the two pop singers Sam Smith and Normani’s “Dancin’ with a Stranger.” It was a well-matched battle. Both artists sound really good on the song.
I felt like Jus Jon had just a little more to his performance and apparently Blake Shelton did too. He picked Jus Jon as the winner of the battle sending him to the Knockout Rounds and sadly sending Payton home.
