Who’s a good doggo? ISU Police Chief Aaron Woodruff joined us this morning to talk about the newest recruit to ISUPD, although this one is a little furrier than most because Sage is a 2 year old black lab!
“Pawfficer” Sage will hopefully be joining Chief Woodruff and the ISUPD in the next month, but first they have to finish raising $4000 for Sage’s “pawfficer” training.
Fortunately for ISUPD, Sage initially failed out of special needs assistant training because she was “too social,” but that failure just meant she would be a perfect fit for ISU. Sage will have one big job…Community engagement. Instead of sniffing out drugs, or chasing suspects, Sage will be a loving, social dogs for ISU students to connect with in hopes to break the barrier between students and ISUPD.
The department hopes students and staff will feel comfortable approaching officers and Sage, and that she will help break down barriers between officers and students. Pawfficer Sage will join fellow officers at campus and public safety events. She will also be available to offer comfort for those filing a police report.
Here is where YOU can help! ISUPD needs to raise $4,000 through the Hatch crowdfunding page to bring Sage to Illinois State. The funds will cover Sage’s specialized training, adoption, and care. Once the $4000 goal is reached, the overage will be used for continued care for Sage, like food, toys and treats, and vet care, emergency services, etc.
ISUPD is excited about Pawfficer Sage joining the staff soon, and we are hoping to get a visit from her in the studio when that happens, but until then you can check out Sage on SIT’s Instagram page, or search #apinchofsage.
