Country music singer-songwriter Toby Keith wrote and recorded a new song for Clint Eastwood that the movie legend decided to include in his new movie The Mule.
Both Toby and Clint enjoy playing golf. It was during a conversation with the movie legend on the golf course when the country music icon had the idea for the song.
Toby was playing in Clint’s golf tournament in Carmel, CA back in May of this year. The two shared a golf cart at the event. Toby asked Clint what was coming next for him. Clint indicated that he was leaving the next day to begin a three-month movie project called The Mule. Clint shared the storyline of the movie with Toby.
Toby then asked Clint, “How do you do it, man?” (Clint turned 88 years old May 31st of this year.) According to Toby, Clint’s response was, “I just don’t let the old man in.”
That line resonated apparently with the songwriter in Toby. Toby went home thought about the actor’s quote and the storyline of the movie and wrote the song. He sent the song to Clint after he recorded it. Clint loved the song and decided to use it in the movie to roll credits at the end.
The song “Don’t Let The Old Man In,” written solely by Toby Keith and recorded by him is available digitally everywhere now.
The new Clint Eastwood movie The Mule will be in theaters this Friday, December 14th.
