Country music singer-songwriter Chris Janson has made an important statement in the messages in his latest single “Drunk Girl” and the music video that goes with it.
Chris has gotten recognition nationwide for his fun songs “Buy Me A Boat” and “Fix A Drink.” However, in his latest single the message has a lot more weight behind it.
The title “Drunk Girl” may make you think it is going to be another honky-tonkin’, party song. Nothing would be farther from the truth.
While the song’s subject, the “Drunk Girl,” has been out partying. The message in the lyrics is that she should be treated with respect instead of taken advantage of.
Take a drunk girl home
Let her sleep all alone
Leave her keys on the counter, your number by the phone
Pick up her life she threw on the floor
Leave the hall lights on walk out and lock the door
That’s how she knows the difference between a boy and man
Take a drunk girl home
The message in the song that Chris wrote with Tom Douglas and Travis Hill can be taken past just the way a guy treats a woman. It can be interpreted as we all should treat each other with respect. We should not look to take advantage of another person just because the opportunity is there. At least that is the message I get from it.
The music video for the song addresses another angle of that same message. The first thing you see is a warning that the video “addresses sensitive topics that might be upsetting to some audiences” and states that “Viewer Discretion Is Advised.”
Through the story portrayed in the music video we see domestic violence through the eyes of a mom and her daughter. I will not reveal any more of the story because I feel like it is best experienced by seeing it yourself.

Thank you for writing and recording this song Chris. The song and the music video shares a message that we all need to hear and then live. Respect each other and just because the opportunity is there to take advantage of somebody doesn’t mean you should.
