George Jones had a hit song with “White Lightning” and now the country music legend has another kind of chart topper with another kind of “White Lightning.”
One of George’s many #1 hits was the iconic song “White Lightning” in 1959. It was somewhat of a foreshadowing of his life as alcohol would be a part of his life for many years to come including earning him the nickname of “No Show Jones.”
In 2012 George said of his desire to create his own brand of moonshine; “Alcohol has owned me and controlled much of my life. Now is my time to own it.”
Now not only does the late country music legend have his own brand of moonshine, it is an award winning brand.
The Spirit International Prestige (SIP) Awards are held annually and gauge consumer satisfaction with spirits. The SIP Awards rank among the most prestigious awards available for liquor products. They are given annually to the top spirits in the world.
The George Jones signature brand of moonshine received highest honors in the 2015 SIP Awards as George Jones White Lightning Apple Pie was awarded a Platinum Medal for Unaged Flavor Infused Whiskey/Moonshine.
George’s widow, Nancy Jones promised her husband before he passed away that she would see this dream of his through; “George always wanted to own his own brand of whiskey. This was one of the promises I made to him before he died, that I’d make that dream come true.”
If you want some George Jones White Lightning Moonshine, you will have to get it from the George Jones Museum in Nashville where it is sold exclusively.
