Country music singer-songwriter Luke Combs has been chasing dreams and is starting to catch them. However, there is one “Neon Dream” that Luke has let go of.
In the past year Luke has marked some milestones in his life and his career. He has released his debut album This One’s For You and it hit #1 in country album sales. The debut single from that album was titled “Hurricane” and it became a #1 single for Luke. What a difference a year can make, right?
Another thing that is different from a year ago for Luke is what he drives around town. In 2016 he was driving around in a Dodge Neon. It was the car he had owned since he was in high school. Luke says the car had it has some issues that he just had to live with, “It had 160,000 miles on it or something like that,” he reveals, “It would smoke when I stopped like when it wasn’t moving. I’d be at the taco bell and its like smoking out of the engine.”
His friends even poked fun at him because of the car. Not because of the make, model or mechanical problems, but because of the “fit” for Luke, “everybody told me I looked like a Donkey Kong in Mario Kart, driving the little Dodge Neon around.”
Well, Luke now has something that might be considered a little more fitting for his status and stature now, a 2017 King Ranch F250. Does he still have the Neon? The answer is no, Luke sold it, “Got a grand out of it. Could also have a decent career in sales apparently,” he jokingly reveals.
What about the emotional attachment to that high school car for Luke? Luke looks back at his first car fondly, “it was definitely an embarrassing car to be caught in, but it got me a lot of places,” he confesses.
That Dodge Neon got Luke to Nashville where he has been able to chase other kinds of “Neon Dreams” and start catching them.
That new truck is not the only way that Luke gets to places these days. He can also be found on his tour bus traveling the country with Brantley Gilbert and Tyler Farr on The Devil Don’t Sleep Tour. Find out where Luke will be on that tour and other events here.
The follow-up to Luke’s debut #1 single “Hurricane” is a song called “When It Rains It Pours.” You can check that song out in the lyric video below.
Good Luke on catching more of those “Neon Dreams” Luke, and believe it or not, issues and all, you will never forget that first “Neon Dream” you drover around. The saying is true, “You never forget your first.”
