Chris Stapleton walked away from the 2024 CMA Awards with the most trophies for the night. However, those weren’t the only awards he received.
Wednesday (11/20) Chris took home the CMA Awards for Male Vocalist, Single and Song of the Year. He also received a 17x Platinum award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for his song “Tennessee Whiskey.” That means the song has been certified for selling 17 million units.
According to Country Insider, that ties Chris with Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus for “Old Town Road” country single with the most certifications. “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Old Town Road” are now also tied at number four on the all-time, all-genre list.
Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” and Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” are tied at number two certified 18x platinum. The number one spot with a certification of 20x platinum is Post Malone and Swae Lee’s song “Sunflower.”
