Why are Goldfish Crackers rebranding their name to “Chilean Sea Bass”?
Apparently, Pepperidge Farm want’s young adults to feel like their Goldfish Crackers are something grown-ups enjoy too. They have launched a new add promoting the new name and reasoning behind it…
OK, so this is obviously a marketing stunt. In fact, you will not see bags of “Chilean Sea Bass” on store shelves. The Limited Edition bags with the “Chilean Sea Bass” name on them are only available through the website ChileanSeaBassCrackers.com. They are selling a set amount each day for the next week. You had better act fast if you want a bag of the snacks that are more “sophisticated” and “so adult.”
Despite their popularity with children, you may not know that the snack was originally intended to be for adults. When the snack debuted in 1962, they were marketed as a new snack that bartenders could put on the bar.
For those of you too young to know, they used to put bowls with free snacks out on bars like pretzels and nuts. That practice faded away when people realized how gross it was for strangers to reach into the same bowl with their hands for food to put in their mouths.
