Botswana officials say one of the largest diamonds ever found has been unearthed at a mine.

The 2,492-carat stone will be put on display today and is believed to be the biggest discovered in the country, and the second-biggest ever brought out of a mine.

Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond Corp. says they recovered the “exceptional” rough diamond from its Karowe Mine in western Botswana.

It was located using X-ray technology.

Botswana is the second biggest producer of diamonds and has unearthed all of the world’s biggest stones in recent years.
