Most people pay their bills online these days. Most people communicate with family and friends either through text, social media or emails. That means many of us may go weeks without getting communications through the US Postal Service (USPS). So, why does the USPS want us to get larger mailboxes?

The USPS is asking that people with standalone, curbside mailboxes replace them with larger, JUMBO ones.

The reason is to be able to put more PACKAGES inside. After all, if you are like most people, that’s really about all that comes to you through the USPS.

They say the larger mailboxes would reduce the “need for notices-left and trips to the Post Office to retrieve a package.” Realistically, I bet it is to save the postal works the time it takes to place them at your doorstep . . . especially in the rural areas.

The USPS recommends a classic shaped mailbox, but with a LOT more room. They suggest it be 14 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 12 inches high. That’s more than a square foot of interior room.

Before you ask, they are not selling them, so this is not a way to increase profits for the USPS. You can find them at several home supply retailers with prices that range from $65 to $100.
