Watch: Logano Dominates and Stenhouse Decks at NASCAR All-Star Race

It was quite a couple of days for NASCAR at the repaved North Wilkesboro Speedway for All-Star weekend.

Saturday night (5/18) five inches of rain fell in 90 minutes at the track. It not only rained out the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, it literally flooded the track.

The track and race officials worked tirelessly through the night. They pumped out the water and dried the track so the truck series race could be completed Sunday and the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Open and All-Star Race could take place.

Drivers that did not qualify automatically for the NASCAR All-Star Race had a chance to race their way in. The top two finishers in the 100-lap All-Star Open would earn a spot in the main race. The winner of the fan vote would also earn a spot in the main race.

Ty Gibbs led every lap in the All-Star Open to transfer to the All-Star Race with Bubba Wallace finishing second to also transfer. Noah Gragson won the fan-vote to earn the final spot in the main race.

Joey Logano started the All-Star Race from the pole position and dominated the race from start to finish. He claimed the bragging rights and one-million-dollar payday as the winner of the race. Joey led all but one lap in the 200-lap race. That set a NASCAR record as the most laps led in the All-Star Race. It was his second All-Star Race win. See the complete race results for the 2024 NASCAR All-Star Race here.

Joey’s dominance of the race is taking a backseat to the post-race incident between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch for attention. Just a couple of laps into the race, Ricky took advantage of an opening in the middle of the track to advance his position. That put him three-wide with Kyle Busch to the outside. Kyle got loose and contacted the wall. Kyle must have felt that Ricky pushed him to the wall, although one camera angle showed that was not the case. Moments late Kyle retaliated by hitting Ricky’s car and causing him to turn into the wall, ending his night.

After the race, Ricky was waiting by Kyle hauler to confront him about the situation. The discussion got heated and Ricky ultimately punched Kyle sending him to the ground. There was a scuffle between crew members before everybody headed their separate ways. As of the writing of this blog there was no word from NASCAR if anybody will be penalized for the incident.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. said in an interview after the incident that he was done with it. Kyle Busch declined being interviewed afterwards. We will have to wait and see if he is done with it or not.

Up next for the NASCAR Cup Series is the Memorial Day Weekend tradition of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway Sunday, May 26th.
