Would you drink a beer made from recycled water from a wastewater treatment plant? That is what is happening in North Carolina.
Town Brewing in Charlotte has partnered with Charlotte Water and water technology company XYLEM to use recycled water to create Renew Brew.
Instead of returning the water from the wastewater treatment plant to the Catawba River, it is sent for purification. The water is purified and tested for 150 contaminants. Experts say this process could be the future of helping communities where water is in low supply. The water is then used to create Renew Brew.
Renew Brew won best in show at the Queen City Brewers Festival blind taste testing.
The beer is not for sale at this point. However, people can try it at Town Brewing’s 420 Festival in April.
Again I ask, would you drink a beer knowing it had been made using water from a wastewater treatment plant?
