You may think you know a lot about your pet. You might feel you are the most well-informed pet parent ever. However, these commonly believed dog and cat myths might bring you down a notch or two.

A recent survey of 2000 pet parents found that 92% of dog and cat owners believe at least one common myth about their pet. Here are the top two myths for each that most are likely to still believe are true.

TOP 2 DOG MYTHS:

68% BELIEVE A WAGGING TAIL ALWAYS MEANS THE DOG IS HAPPY
This can also mean that they are interested in something or are just being extra alert.

38% BELIEVE A WET NOSE MEANS THE DOG IS HEALTHY
This actually is not a good indicator of health. Neither is the temperature of the nose. The dog’s nose could be wet because it licks it a lot.

TOP 2 CAT MYTHS:

42% BELIEVE CATS CAN SEE IN TOTAL DARKNESS
Cats can see in low light better than we can. However, they cannot see if it is pitch black.

41% BELIEVE CATS ALWAYS LAND ON THEIR FEET
This is not always true. When a cat gets older, is overweight or is not in the best health they may not have the best reaction time anymore.
