Fred Hurt, Discovery channel reality star, has died. Fred was known as “Dakota Fred” by fans of Gold Rush and Gold Rush: White Water.

Fred was and his son Dustin Hurt were a part of the hit show Gold Rush on the Discovery channel for the first four seasons.

Dustin took his crew to the spin-off of the show Gold Rush: White Water in 2018. Fred has joined his son on that show multiple times in the six seasons it has been running. He was a part of this past season which aired the season finale just last month.

TMZ reports that he died battling brain cancer. They add that he was diagnosed with the disease for only four months. Fred’s family posted news of his passing on his official Facebook page last Tuesday.

Dakota Fred Hurt was 80 years old.
