When Kyle Busch and his team gets it right, they GET IT RIGHT. That was the case in the Enjoy Illinois 300 just across the river from St. Louis Sunday (6/5).
Kyle was able to run an amazing lap at World Wide Technology Raceway (WWTR) and claim the pole for the start of the race. While Ryan Blaney was able to edge Kyle out to lead lap one, it was all Kyle Busch after that.
Kyle claimed the win of stage one and led a race high of 121 laps in the race. Ryan Blaney claimed the win in stage two and was next on the list of laps led at 83 laps out front.
There were 11 caution periods during the race. Five of those yellow flags waived in the final 40 laps of the race. The last one created a NASCAR Overtime of a green-white-checkered finish. Kyle Busch was able to hold off the field in all of those final re-starts to hold the lead for the final 60 laps of the race to win.
WWTR becomes the twenty-fifth different track Kyle Busch has won a Cup Series race on. The win is his third win of the 2023 season joining William Byron with the most wins of the year so far.
Denny Hamlin was able to claim a second-place finish with Joey Logano (last year’s winner of this race) finishing in third-place. See the complete race results in the Enjoy Illinois 300 here.
Ryan Blaney moves up a spot to take over the lead in the point standings after the race at WWTR. William Byron moves up to second and Kevin Harvick moves up to third. See the complete NASCAR Cup Series point standings here.
The NASCAR teams head to wine country next for the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway this Sunday, June 11th.
