Last night (4/17) the Knockout Rounds began on season 23 of The Voice. Who did Blake Shelton pick as the winners on Team Blake?
Reba McEntire was Blake’s very first mentor for Team Blake in season one of the show. She returns for his final season as a coach as the Mega Mentor for all of the teams in the Knockout Rounds.
Apparently, this season they will not post both performances from each Knockout Round battle. They are only posting the winners’ performances and the performances of anybody who is stolen.
Blake’s first pairing was NOVIAS (the artist he stole from Chance the Rapper in the Battle Rounds) and Tasha Jensen. NOVIAS picked “I Put a Spell On You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins for his performance. Tasha chose to sing Hozier’s “Take Me to Church.” Both artists sounded really good. However, NOVIAS really added major stage presence to his performance. Blake picked NOVIAS as the winner and Nial Horan decided to Steal Tasha as you can see in the videos below.
Blake’s second pairing of the night was Walker Wilson and Kylee Dayne. Walker chose to perform “I Ain’t Living Long Like This” by Waylon Jennings. Kylee picked “All By Myself” by Eric Carmen for her performance. Walker’s performance was spot-on for his voice. However, I felt like the song choice did not give him the opportunity to show out much as to what he is capable of. Kylee’s performance allowed her to show what she is capable of. In fact, it did that more than any of her performances on the show so far. That performance motivated Blake to choose Kylee as the winner. Unfortunately, since nobody stole Walker he was sent home.
With this being Blake’s final season as a coach, The Voice has been creating some retrospective videos of “The Cowboy” as Carson Daly likes to call him. Check out a couple of them below.
According to the promo at the end of last night’s episode, the Knockout Rounds will continue next Monday (4/24) on season 23 of The Voice.
