Last night (3/27) was the first night of the Battle Rounds on season 23 of The Voice. How many Team Blake artists were sent home?
There are a couple of changes in this round of the competition for season 23. This season there are no advisors working with the coaches to prepare the artists for the Battle Rounds. It is just the coach getting them ready for the duo performance. Plus, each coach has a “Playoff Pass.” That means they can keep one artist from a battle on their team for the Knockout Rounds and put the other artist straight through to the Playoffs. Of course, each coach also has a “Steal” to use during the Battle Rounds to take an artist that does not win their battle.
Blake Shelton got the very first battle of the season with Team Blake’s Tasha Jensen and EJ Michels. Blake gave them the song “The Tracks Of My Tears” by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles to perform. The battle was pretty evenly matched. Tasha’s tone was amazing and EJ’s range and stage performance was incredible.
Blake chose to keep Tasha on Team Blake.
Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan both hit their buttons to “Steal” EJ. Even though Chance turned for EJ in the Blinds and Niall did not, EJ chose to join Team Niall.
The second Team Blake battle was between Kason Lester and Walker Wilson. Blake gave to the two southern rockers the song by 3 Doors Down “Here Without You” for their performance. The performance was really good. Kason had a really interesting husky sound. Walker’s voice had a grittiness to his solid tone. I did feel like there was just something a little better in Walker’s performance.
Apparently, Blake had the same feeling as I did since he chose to keep Walker on Team Blake for the Knockout Rounds. Unfortunately, that sent Kason home.
Both Niall and Kelly Clarkson used their “Steal” last night. Chance used his “Playoff Pass.” Will any more of those get used tonight? We will have to watch as The Voice Season 23 continues with the Battle Rounds to find out at 8 p.m. central time (9 p.m. eastern time) on NBC.
