Justin Moore is a great cook. In fact, it’s one of his hobbies outside of music. However, he admits there are a couple family recipes that he just can’t cook as well as the person who taught him the recipe. That includes one from his mom her never gets quite right.
“Fried squash, like fresh squash. Southern thing, but I don’t know how she does it. It’s like soft, but crunchy, but it’s just right. And I can’t do it. I’ve tried it, and I’m, you know, overall I’m probably a better cook than she is, but I just can’t do that. So that one, and I make really good fried potatoes, but my grandmother, God rest her soul, I don’t know how she did it. I finally figured her gravy out, but the potatoes like, Kate’ll go, ‘These are good, but they ain’t your nannies.’ I’m like, I know! I know! I don’t know what the deal is. I don’t know if it was a certain skillet or … It was her is what it was.”
