Chase Rice’s highly emotional video for “Bench Seat” takes the singer to a place he’s never been before.

The seven-minute video highlights mental health and the tragic story of Rice’s college friend who almost took his own life.

“My buddy was in a really dark place – to the point where he was ready to end his own life. It took a lot for him to take me back to that moment, but when he told me what stopped him, it stopped me in my tracks,” Rice recalled. “His dog came and laid his head on his lap, and that connection saved him.”

With the gun on his lap, Rice says his buddy was stopped by his dog, who laid on his lap, head tilted, looking at him as to ask, “what are you doing.”
