Justin Moore and his wife Kate have a pretty unique tradition they started a few years ago around Christmastime, in honor of her Louisiana roots.
“For the holidays, we used to flip flop. We would go one year to Louisiana and one year we would come here to Arkansas, just ’cause we thought that was fair. And now, Kate’s sister and our brother-in-law and our nephews live in Poyen, and Kate’s parents also live near us here in Arkansas. So, that and the fact that we have so many kids and it’s hard to travel for holidays now, we stay home. And so, Kate being from South Louisiana, she wanted to introduce the stuff she grew up with, not only to our kids, but to my family. Not to mention, it’s really good stuff. But for Christmas Eve we host my mom’s side of the family and we do gumbo, which is kind of unique, I guess – for around here at least it is. So, we do kinda more of a Cajun thing for Christmas Eve evening, and then we do the traditional stuff for Christmas day.”
