Kenny Chesney is requesting you now refer to him as Dr. Chesney. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from his alma mater, East Tennessee State University, in a special ceremony last week.
Not only was Kenny there in person at the event, but the school was also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the university’s Bluegrass, Old-Time and Roots Music Studies program, which Kenny was a part of while in school.
During his time onstage, Kenny joked about how he was going to make his band refer to him as Dr. Chesney and that he wouldn’t answer to just Kenny anymore, he also reflected on the impact the school’s music program had on his decision to pursue country music as a career.
