Do you put sunscreen on your dog when you go outside with him or her? Perhaps you should…
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC) 57% of us never put sunscreen on our dogs. 46% of us didn’t even realize we SHOULD.
Dogs CAN get sunburned. That can lead to all sorts of issues, like skin cancer and dermatitis.
Certain dogs are more at risk for sunburns, especially ones with short, white coats or hairless breeds. However, even dogs with thick coats can burn, especially in spots with little to no hair like their nose, ears, and bellies.
Please DO NOT use HUMAN sunscreens on your dogs. They could have ingredients that are toxic to dogs in them. The AKC says to use a waterproof, unscented sunscreen specifically made for dogs with an SPF of 30 or higher.
