Sunday (5/29) was the Coca-Cola 600. Many are calling it the best 600 NASCAR has had in more than ten years.
Unfortunately, I did not get to watch the race due to circumstances beyond my control. I did watch the extended highlights video above. It does appear to have been a very exciting race for fans to enjoy.
Chase Elliott won stage one of the race. Daniel Suarez was the winner in stage two. Ross Chastain was able to win win stage three.
With three laps to go in the race it appeared that Kyle Larson was going to win. However, the caution flag would waive for the 17th time sending the race in to overtime. In fact, there would be two green-white-checkered attempts to get the race completed by NASCAR overtime rule.
Denny Hamlin was able to capture his first ever win in the Coca-Cola 600. Kyle Busch finished in second-place. Kevin Harvick came in third with Chase Briscoe claiming fourth. Christopher Bell rounded out the top five. See the complete race results for the 2022 Coca-Cola 600 here.
Chase Elliott leaves Charlotte Motor Speedway with the lead in the point standings. Ross Chastain sits in second-place. Kyle Busch is in third and Ryan Blaney holds fourth. Martin Truex Jr. is the fifth-place driver in points. See the complete NASCAR Cup Series Point Standings here.
Next the teams travel to Madison, Illinois (just across the river from St. Louis) for the Enjoy Illinois 300 presented by TicketSmarter at the World Wide Technology Raceway. That race will be held Sunday, June 5th.
