Chase Briscoe emerged victorious in the Ruoff Mortgage 500 at Phoenix Race Sunday afternoon (3/13).
The fourth race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season was the shortest track the drivers had raced the seventh version of the Next Gen cars. The one-mile track presented the typical challenges the nearly flat track offers every race. The new car added to the difficulty level for both veterans and new drivers alike.
The race featured just six different drivers exchanging the lead of the race 14 times. Ryan Blaney spent the most time as the race leader with 143 laps out front in the 312-lap race. Ryan was the winner of the second stage of the race while William Byron was the winner of stage one.
Chase Briscoe led once early in stage one of the race. He didn’t lead again until the third and final stage of the race. Chase took the lead with 82 laps remaining in the race when his pit crew got him off pit road first. He was able to hold that lead for all but one lap of those final laps of the race. Chase scored his first career win in the NASCAR Cup Series. He became the fourth different winner in four races for the 2022 NASCAR season. He also became the 200th different winner in NASCAR Cup Series history.
