When you make music and perform live shows for a living, it can be hard to listen to songs or watch a concert without constantly dissecting what you’re seeing or hearing and taking mental notes. Brett Young says that’s the case for him. “If I’m not learning from things that other people are doing, then I’m not taking advantage of the opportunities that I have in my career. I’m always trying to learn what I do like and what I don’t like from other people,” says Brett.
Even when he’s working, Brett says he’s constantly looking for opportunities to learn. “I do that on tour too when I’m opening for people or when I have openers. I’m watching the show trying to learn from it. But, whenever there’s a moment that’s just beautiful and perfect, I get lost in it still.”
Brett isn’t sure he will ever be able to watch a concert strictly as a fan, and he says, “I probably drive my wife crazy with how much I analyze and ruin the moment sometimes, but I’m still gettin’ a good 30% love of music out of it.”
