Last night (9/20) was the season 21 premiere of The Voice. How did Blake Shelton do for Team Blake in the first night of Blind Auditions?
Peedy Chavis is a 19-year-old with an affinity for the sound of classic pop, rock and R&B music. He sings Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” for his Blind Audition. The performance gets John Legend and Blake to press their buttons.
Peedy chooses Blake as his coach and becomes the first member of Team Blake for season 21.
Wendy Moten is a 56-year-old music industry veteran. She released a single titled “Come in Out of the Rain” in the 90s. Most recently she has spent the majority of the past two decades as a background singer for acts including Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Vince Gill, Julio Iglesias, and Wynonna. Wendy performs the Stevie Wonder version of the classic hit “We Can Work It Out” as the final Blind Audition of the night. All four coaches turn their chairs. All four coaches give passionate pitches for Wendy to choose their team. Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande seem to be the most passionate in their speeches.
Wendy made the somewhat surprising choice of joining Team Blake with Blake Shelton as her coach for the competition.
The night ended with Blake scoring the two artists above for Team Blake. Kelly and John also each got two artists for their respective teams. New coach Ariana Grande had the best night ending with three artists on her team.
The Blind Auditions continue tonight on The Voice Season 21 at 7 p.m. central time (8 p.m. eastern time) on NBC.
