Thomas Rhett & his dad Rhett Akins shared a special moment at the Grand Ole Opry this past Saturday (6/12).
Just in time for Father’s Day, Thomas was joined by his dad Rhett Akins for a special father/son performance, marking their first-ever performance together at the Opry.
Rhett sang some of his hits earlier in the night, and then Thomas took the stage to perform some of his own, before he was joined on stage by his dad. Thomas told the crowd…“So, we’re going to play you a song together that we wrote together. This was the first single off my latest album.”
His dad then added, “this is unbelievable, you were over there at 2-years-old watching me play and we’ve written songs in the kitchen since you were about 8-years-old and now we’re singing one on the Grand Ole Opry that we wrote and it went to No. 1. Thank you Lord.”
After their performance of “What’s Your Country Song,” they hugged while the crowd gave them a standing ovation.
The pair then went on to sing one they wrote
“Of all the songs me and dad have written together, this is probably one of my favorites.” It’s called “Things Dad’s Do” and you can hear it below as well in the Opry Livestream.
