Tim McGraw performed his latest single “I Called Mama” last Wednesday (9/16) on the ACM Awards Show. When his own mama heard it for the first time it brought her to send crying emojis.
When Tim recorded the song, he naturally wanted to share it with his mom. Once he knew it was going to be released to radio, Tim says,
“I sent it to her – and my mom’s gotten better with the phone now – so, I sent it to her and I said we’re gonna release this single and it’s gonna come out Mother’s Day weekend. And then she sent me crying emojis. I knew better than to call her because I knew what she was doing. I knew she wouldn’t be able to talk at the time because I know my mom pretty well. I knew exactly what she meant when she sent those emojis, that’s why she didn’t call.”
The song has had a powerful impact on Tim’s family. Not only did his mom cry the first time she heard it, but Tim cried the first time he sang it for his wife, Faith Hill. Then, Faith cried because Tim was crying.
In addition to the song being special and emotional, the picture used for the cover of the “I Called Mama” single is special because it’s a picture of Tim’s mom. He says,
“It’s a picture from her, right before she found out she was pregnant with me, actually.”
“I Called Mama” is the first single off Tim’s new Here On Earth album, and it’s currently sitting in the top ten on the charts and continuing to rise. The album and single are both available everywhere now.
Listen for “I Called Mama” by Tim McGraw on Bloomington-Normal’s #1 Country, B104.
