Like so many others in the United States, Jimmie Allen was stunned and saddened by the death of George Floyd.
Jimmie says it hit him especially hard because he is black, and all could think about was his son.
Jimmie stopped by The Today Show with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager to talk about what this moment in time means to him…
“Things hit you harder when someone looks like you. I pictured my son. I pictured me. So, I was upset, you know?”
.@JimmieAllen has had some big life changes since we last talked to him! He welcomed a baby girl in March with his fiancée, Alexis. At the same time, his single “Make Me Want To” hit No. 1 on the country music charts! pic.twitter.com/n8YDe5RnN2

Jimmie posted on social media recently that it’s our job as humans to point out the negative treatment of people, and if we see it and it doesn’t bother us, we need to check our hearts. He told Hoda and Jenna, “Any time you see something, put the face of someone you love on that person you see treated unjustly, and that will wake you up in a minute.”
Incredible advice Jimmie!
